Integrity

We have been a full time antiquarian book and map dealer over 20 years now (and in the business for years prior to that), so you can order from us with complete confidence. All of our material is guaranteed to be original and as stated-- we stand behind what we sell and have never had an item returned because of authenticity issues.

We do not share any data whatsoever of any sort about our customers with anyone for any reason.  We do not store credit card numbers on our computers, but instead rely upon manually researching old written receipts for repeat customers who wish to reorder (as many do).

All items ordered via the website are returnable within five days of receipt,  provided they are returned with proper packaging and insurance at sender's expense (please call or e-mail us first). Shipping costs are unfortunately obviously not refundable. Virtually everyone who orders from us is delighted with their maps and books. You can check our ongoing public feedback about our service and antique maps by hyper- linking to our eBay listings and then viewing "Feedback" from there. The list is extensive, revealing well in excess of 2000 positive and happy clients, which is but a tiny fraction of the actual number of positive transactions we've had in the period displayed.

Our inventory is diverse and continually changing as we are constantly buying and selling-- our websites list but a shifting sample of our holdings. We will be adding to these sites on a regular basis (weekly, sometimes 3X or more weekly).

All items offered are subject to prior sale-- we recommend prompt ordering if an item interests you to avoid disappointment. We sell very actively from our site and do our best to keep it updated and current. As noted at the bottom of each page, there is always the possibility an item has been sold and not yet deleted from the site. We apologize for disappointing you if this happens.

* We regret that due to time limitations we are unable to quote or photograph items not on the site or to search for specific items. We can keep your email address and map request on file and try to notify you when possible if you so desire.

MAILING COSTS:

USA Shipping:

Please Note: Year-round Rush Holiday shipping is always possible. Phone orders received up until c. 12:00 (noon) EST are often shipped the same day. UPS picks up at our shop Mon-Friday around 3 PM, we visit the post office regularly for international shipping/ PO box addresses. We always strive to ship very promptly and are happy to accommodate your shipping request.

The standard shipping charge for single maps and books via UPS Trackable, insured up to $100 in value is $8.50.  We typically ship maps in sturdy, heavy duty wide tubes. Map orders shipped flat cost more due to increased costs of material and labor, but we are of course able and happy to do this on request for a surcharge of $3 (our actual cost). Orders between $101 and $200 have $8.95 added to the total ($1 extra is for additional $100 insurance) ; between $200 and $300 have $9.95 added; between $400 and $500 have $10.95 added; etc. We will quote shipping prices for all other orders.

World-Wide Shipping:

We regularly ship internationally, but please keep in mind that insurance can drive the cost up dramatically. Due to dramatically higher US Postal rates and administrative costs, we now are forced to charge $10 for international air shipping for tubes (maps) to Europe, but if you want insurance we'll have to quote a price (e-mail us at mapsbooks@comcast.net). Books can be expensive sent air, often $20-25.

Asia is $22 for the first 2 maps, sent Air, uninsured.  Insured map parcels typically run $20 or so up to $500 insurance, a bit more in excess of this amount. Books are $15-20 range with no insurance, $30 range if shipped with insurance.  We (of course) cannot be responsible for parcels sent internationally which are not insured. It is the choice of the buyer to decide if they wish to pay the increased costs of insured/ registered mail.

Insured packages to Europe and Asia are typically in the $20-22 range. We are not responsible for uninsured international shipments- it's out of our hands with endless variables, and if it's worth over $100 we strongly urge all of our clients to weigh their own experience and insure their maps (we insist on insurance over $200 International). If you decline insurance or registered airmail, we may ask you to please email or fax us that you accept any risk involved since we obviously cannot reimburse you if your parcel goes missing.

It is also very safe to spell out the digits of your credit card (e.g. one, two, three, four, etc.), which we understand is as safe (at least) as faxing it.

Electronic and FAX orders will be acknowledged within 48 hours-- often much sooner.

We regret that we cannot be responsible for typographical or HTML errors that incorrectly quote the price of an item. We appreciate your understanding.

Re-Stocking Fee

We are regretfully forced to impose a small restocking fee of 5% for 1 item and 10% for the return of 2 or more items.

Why?:  It is very labor intensive to locate maps amongst the thousands on the site, package to ship, do the website work of archiving the page, etc.  To then later have to undo it all and re-file the maps takes precious time away from more productive activities.  The idea here is NOT to somehow profit, but to help defray the very real cost of this time wasting activity on a small business with limited hours and no labor to waste.  Thus,...

We much prefer that you carefully consider your purchases in advance and be sure you want what you order.  Obviously if the error is somehow ours or there is some valid variance between description and the actual item we will unhesitatingly waive this small fee. It is thankfully very rare that this happens and we continually strive to do our best to avoid this scenario. This means we often err on the side of the buyer when describing our items. The buyer is usually quite happy with what they receive from us and it is remarkably uncommon for clients to return things.

Website Sales

Our philosophy regarding sales and promotions:

We like to regularly offer enticing promotional sales on our website. We feel this both encourages new customers and rewards those who have bought from us in the past and are regularly checking back to see what new items we have added.  How, we respectfully ask, can you resist terms like these? So don't be disappointed by waiting to buy something you'd like to own.  There is no better time to buy than now, in the present, before the item becomes scarcer or more expensive.  Everything you see here on this website will, eventually, sell to someone, and it may as well be you.
