A very appealing, mid 19th-century engraved map of Canada .  Tallis maps are renowned for their decorative quality, many of the maps displaying charming vignette scenes around the map itself. T his particular map shows vignette views of Montreal , Whale Fishing, a Polar Bear, a group of Eskimos/Exquimaux, and two ships: the Fury and the Hecla. Also shown by all of the red dots are the forts and principle stations of the Hudson 's Bay Company. All of this is set within an elaborate scrollwork border. Note the appellation 'Russian America,' for present-day Alaska .

In VG+ condition, very attractive and visually pleasing. The map has slight areas of toning which are less conspicuous in person, tiny binder's stitch hole at centerfold, now backed with old paper and virtually invisible. With original outline hand color.

In all, a very clean, pleasing example of this very desirable map. Very appealing, one of the last truly decorative maps from the mid-19th century.

Sheet measures c. 10 5/8"H x 14 3/8 "W. Image measures c. 12 7/8"W x 10 1/4"H.
