A fine example of an exceedingly uncommon mid-19th century folio sheet view. A very large oversize sheet.
Lithographed with full original hand color heightened in outline.
This map appeared in a very rare 1853 atlas which is a lithographic re-issue of Thomson's engraved c.1817 massive World atlas. This map is a direct copy of the Thomson map, but here lithographed and with numerous changes reflecting the then modern geography.
A rare 19th century map, not to be confused with the quarto size maps of Philips Penny Atlas or the far more common various Johnson atlas maps of this era.
Sheet measures 26" x 21 1/2." Map area measures 24" x 19 1/2." Paper is evenly toned.
