Scythia - c. 1680
Note: To view available close-ups, click on the area you wish to see. A large, and quite beautiful, mid-17th century engraved map with lovely hand color. We see the areas of ancient central Asia then known as Scythiam and Sericam with rivers and mountain ranges. Features illustrations of camels, men hunting wild horses, and nomads. Cities denoted by buildings. Ornate title cartouche at top right. Appears to be a scarce mid-17th century Mercator map, in VG+ to near excellent condition. Fold line, as issued, with a couple of minor extraneous creases. A splendid hand colored map w/ 17th century charm - much nicer in person as the images really do not do justice. Will look fantastic framed. Sheet measures c. 21" x 16 1/2." Image area measures c. 16" x 13 1/2." Ordering: Please use the Buy Me button below, or phone the shop to order this map.
