A detailed mid-19th century folio sheet Johnson map in full original hand color. We see railroads, roads, rivers and canals as they existed in Civil War era Central America. Inset at bottom left depicts I "Isthmus of Panama" (for the then proposed RR routes), "Harbor of San Juan de Nicaragua", and "The Nicaragua Route". At right we see smaller insets of "Manzanilla I. Aspinwall City Navy yard", and "City of Panama". The image area is framed by a lovely patterned scroll border.

In VG+, clean antiquarian condition for this fine large mid-19th century Johnson map. Exhibits the most minor light scattered spotting & toning, nothing severe or detracting and overall very appealing visually (hardly worth mentioning). Perfect for framing, with a nice age patina.

Sheet measures 18" x 14." Map area measures 16" x 13."
