"Descittione Dell' Arcipelago," issued in 1620, Padova, by Porcacchi. A most attractive 17th century engraving showing Greece, and the area around Peloponneseus. Depicts the coast of Turkey at right and the boot of Italy at left. Shows as far south as the island of Candia. The map shows a nice level of detail, including major geographical features such as major lakes, rivers, islands, and mountains. The map also shows the countries major cities highlighted by tiny red cathedral-like symbols. With a nice pictorial strapwork cartouche in the lower left hand corner which has 2 naked women on either side.

Very pleasing visually and an item which will make a wonderful conversation piece. In VG+ to near excellent condition, surrounded by original text as issued.

Beautifully hand colored. Sheet measures c. 8" W x 11 1/2" H, image measure c. 4" H x 5 5/8" W.

Scarce thus- a very nice example.
