"Flandria Septentrionalis", issued 1676 Amsterdam by van Waesberge for a rare oversize edition of Mercator's minor atlas. A delightful and quite desirable 17th century map of Flanders, the region including what is modern day southern Holland and northern coastal Belgium. Includes the cities of Oostende, Brugge, Vlissingen (in Zeeland), Gent, etc. The map gives great details of the regions major geographical landmarks including mountains, rivers, lakes, and forests, as well as giving the locations of the major cities, many highlighted with small cathedrals. These cities are charmingly detailed as well, with the plan clearly depicted.

Nice strapwork and floral cartouche. In VG+ to near excellent, mostly clean and fresh antiquarian condition (reverse is blank, no text unlike many other Mercator minor maps).

With outstanding if not superior full (recent) hand color.

Sheet measures 111/4 " x 8 3/4", image measures 10 " x 7 1/2 ".

A wonderful example of this very nice 17th century map of Flanders. Map has been photographed on a table giving the slight appearance of being framed.
