A scarce Dutch variant of this mid-18th century map. Depicts the Spitzbergen Islands, located halfway between Greenland and Nova Zembla in the Arctic Ocean. Shows the main island, the island to the northeast, the island to the southeast, and countless smaller islands. Various engraved notes abound relating to the physical features. Also seen are numerous small anchors and locations of shoals, indicating tracks of ships which had visited this area. With beautiful full hand color. In VG+ to near excellent, clean antiquarian condition; original fold line as issued. Sheet measures 12 1/4 " x 10 1/4 ", image measures 11 " x 8 ".
