"H Clay," issued 1861, New York. 

A lovely mid-18th century portrait of Secretary of State Henry Clay. Henry Clay ran for the presidency four times between 1824 and 1844, loosing each time for such reasons as supporting the 2nd Bank of the U.S., which Jackson opposed (1832). He later became known as the "Great Pacificator" for his sponsorship of the Compromise of 1850.

In VG+ antiquarian condition. with expert and lovely full hand color.

Sheet measures c. 11 " H x 7 1/4 " W, image area measures c. 7 3/8 " H x 5 1/2 " W.
