"The King of Congo, Surrounded by his Attendants, giving Audience" published c. 1780's, London, by Moore. An attractive 18th century engraving depicting the King of Congo surrounded by a number of his flunkies. European fascination with the Congo first began with the Portuguese, who discovered the African region in the year 1486. Much of the Congo remained unexplored and therefore exotic to Europeans throughout the 19th and 20th centuries. This image pertaining to the Congo features a fine level of detail in the engraving. Note the ornate rendition and European style of the chandelier.

In VG+ to near excellent condition. Sheet measures c. 9 1/4" W x 14 1/8" H, image measures 71/4" W x 10 1/2" H.
