"Pays des Negres," issued in 1683, Paris, by A. M. Mallet. A lovely 17th century engraved map of the western part of Africa, divided into regions as they once existed, including Pays Des Negres, Biledvlgerid, and the Barbary Coast. Shows the Sahara Desert, the Tropic of Cancer, the Canary Islands, and Maderia Island. Spanning across much of the continent is a long mountain range, extending from Nubia in the east to Guinea. There also is depicted a series of rivers and lakes within various other mountains. Also shows part of Europe including Spain, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, and Turkey in Europe or Greece. Features a delightful decorative cartouche at bottom right. 

With lovely hand color accentuated in outline hand color. In VG+ antiquarian condition, a pleasing example of this charming little map. Sheet measures c. 5 1/2" W x 8 1/4" H, image area measures c. 4" W x 5 3/4" H.
