A lovely, fascinating original folio size sheet of 7 wood engraved maps of various Southern (Confederate) US Harbors. This image is a page from a Harper's Weekly published in 1861, the year in American History that began the Civil War. At this time, a number of early skirmishes were taking place in the Southern states. The article on the sheet, entitled "Southern Harbors," explains that "...the United States Government is fitting out expeditions for the attack of one or more Southern ports," and that the publishers have chosen these seven harbors as those that have any consequence (with the exception of Pensacola). The article continues to give a brief and generalized overview of the histories and geographical layouts of these harbors.

A fascinating original Civil War period item (with seven maps in one!), very suitable for framing.

In VG+ to near excellent antiquarian condition. Sheet measures c. 11" W x 16 " H. Image measures c. 9 1/2" W x 14 1/2" H.
