"Chart of the East India Islands," issued c. 1815, NY, by anonymous. A beautiful early 19th century engraved map of Southeast Asia and what was once known as the East Indies or East Indian Islands. Shows the islands of Sumatra, Borneo, Java, Velees, New Guinea, and countless smaller islands. Also shows the Philippine islands with a nice level of detail, the Malay Peninsula and what is now Thailand, Burma, Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam. Gives a number of long obsolete place names for this region including Pegu, Camboja, Cochin China, and Tonkin. Shows various nautical features of the area, including sandbanks, etc. Of note is the southern coast of New Guinea, left undefined in places. The chart also names a number of important cities on the larger islands and shows major rivers.

With lovely hand color, accentuated with outline hand color.

 In VG+ to near excellent antiquarian condition, with some light soiling to left margin (not detracting). Sheet measures c. 17 " W x 10 1/2 " H, image area measures c. 15 " W x 18 1/8 " H.

A nice map from the early part of the 19th century.
