Note: To view one of 3 available close-ups, click on the area you wish to see. "A. Clingulais a couverts de la sous la feuille de Talipot. B. Arbe nomme Talipot," issued c. 1747, Paris. An interesting, attractive mid 18th-century engraving, depicting a group of Ceylonese men using leaves from the 'Talipot' tree to stay dry in a downpour. There would also appear to be some sort of ritual or ceremony happening under the tree. Features a fine level of detail in the engraving, especially in the exotic-looking vegetation. In VG+ to near excellent condition. With lovely, full hand color. Sheet measures c. 7 1/4"W x 10"H, image measures c. 5 1/2"W x & 7 3/4"H. An interesting engraving relating to Ceylon.
