Stereo-View Photographs of Mont Blanc Expedition - c. 1901
Note: to see close-ups of this picture, click on the area you wish to see. A set of 11 very appealing stereoscope views depicting an expedition to the summit of Mont Blanc, the highest point in Europe. The equipment these mountaineers depended on seems primitive by today's standards. There are several views of the men crossing treacherous crevasses, and one scene of the expedition posing triumphantly at the summit. These stereo-views were produced in 1901 by Underwood & Underwood. In near excellent, clean antiquarian condition with great visual appeal. Measures 7" x 3 1/2". The title of each card, in six European languages, is printed on the reverse. A lengthy excerpt from Switzerland through the Stereoscope, by M.S. Emery, is featured on the reverse of one card.
