De La Sphere, Figure LIII; issued 1683, Paris by A.M.Mallet, the well traveled military engineer and geographer who worked in 17th century France under King Louis XIV. This charming clestial view of the Sun & Moon in spheres, as seen early in the 18th century is from his scarce monumental work "Description de L'Univers". A pleasing 17th century celestial image, with the Sun aligned the Moon to form an eclipse in the left sphere, the Moon rotating around the earth in phases in the right sphere. Below the planets is a wonderful scene of ruins in a landscape, people wandering around among it.

Surely not a common celestial image and very desirable thus.

In near excellent antiquarian condition with beautiful full hand color,on a c. 5 " W x 7 3/4 " H sheet, image area c. 4 " W x 5 3/4 " H.
