Bonne was the important French engineer and cartographer (1727-1795) who succeeded J.N. Bellin as Hydrographer at the Depot de la Marine (1773). His maps are well engraved with a clean and precise engraving technique. As his atlases were so popular, they went through numerous editions. This means that maps which appear to be the same on closer inspection turn out to be from a completely different plate. This presents the collector with an opportunity for specialization and research of variant printings. In near excellent antiquarian condition with attractive full hand color on a c. 17 1/4 " W x 10 3/4 " H sheet, image area c. 12 1/4 " W x 8 " H.
