Note: to see two close-ups of this picture, click on the area you wish to see. "Christian der v. Konig der Dahnen, Nordwege, van Dalen und Gothen", issued Frankfort, 1719 by A.M.Mallet. This is a wonderful and charming pair of medallions depicts the King of these Scandinavian countries early in the 18th century. Below the portrait is an active scene of tall ships engaged in warfare, relating to a naval victory in 1674. Mallet was a well traveled military engineer and geographer who worked in 17th century France under King Louis XIV. This illustration is from his scarce monumental work "Description de L'Univers". Surely not common and very desirable thus. In excellent antiquarian condition with attractive full hand color on a c. 6 3/4 " W x 8 " H sheet (image size is c. 3 3/4 " W x 5 3/4 " H).
