A detailed and very uncommon mid-18th century chart of this Mexican coastal region and harbor, Bold rhumb lines radiating out from a compass rose, sounding depths and a fleur-de-lys help to impart a pleasing nautical feel to the map. A staggering number of tiny trees are depicted on the land. The map is based upon the voyage and information gathered by Anson in 1742, just a handful of years prior to the publication of this map. Originally issued for the scarce Dutch editon of Prevost's "L'Histoire Generale des Voyages", with most of Bellin's maps re-engraved with Dutch text by Schley. In near excellent antiquarian condition with attractive full hand color, on a c. 9 5/8 " H x 7 1/2 " H sheet, image area c. 8 1/4 " H x 5 5/8 " W original fold lines as issued.
