Iowa and Missouri - 1862 - by Mitchell
A bright, clean example of this S.A. Mitchell map, from the scarce Civil War year imprint (1862) of the "New General Atlas." This early series displays a beautiful and ornate "grape cluster" border and a strong, bold original hand color which is unique to these early Civil War years. The S.A. Mitchell firm was one of the premier cartographic publishing houses in the United States at this mid -19th century date, and their maps display the highest standards of lithographic printing practiced at this time. Their maps capture a transitional phase in the growth and development of American cities and states, making them ideally suited for collectors and as gifts for framing and display.
