Portland Harbor - Blunt
A most attractive early to mid-19th Century American coast map of Portland Harbor, Maine. Drawn and engraved by W. Hooker. Several important islands are named, as are the soundings. Beautiful hand coloring. Note: to see available close-ups of this picture, click on the area you wish to see. There are generally one or two close-ups, usually including the cartouche or other points of interest.
The Blunts were enormously influential, among the earliest American publishers of coastal charts in America, in many instances preceding official government surveys. Their maps are well engraved, attractive and somewhat undervalued given their date and significance. Fine, clean condition on a c. 5 1/2” W x 9” H sheet. Ordering:
