Scandinavia
A well engraved 18th Century map of Scandinavia, by Didier Robert de Vaugondy, son of the great French cartographer Gilles Robert de Vaugondy-- descendents of the 17th Century cartographic Nicholas Sanson family. All Vaugondy maps are historically significant for their synthesis of scientific and intellectual ideas, then prevalent at the Royal Academy of Sciences in Paris.

Thus, this concept of "Bel et Utile," thoroughly documented in Dr. Mary Pedley's comprehensive monograph on this remarkable cartographic family, is beautifully presented in Vaugondy maps, which (lucky for us) were widely published in the 18th century. These maps are decorative (with cartouches), well engraved and here found with full hand-color. This map will look wonderful once properly framed. Fine, clean condition on a c. 17” W x 14” H sheet.
