An early 19th century American full calf binding. Ornately gilt spine with gilt title, gently rubbed. Leather boards are, overall, smooth and supple with some
edge wear. Binding tight and sound. Marbled edges faded.
Mostly clean internally with scattered foxing / age-toning. Includes six steel engraved plates. Engraved frontis depicts the signing of the Declaration of Independence by Trumbull (engraved by Illman and Pilbrow). Other engravings throughout depict portraits of Benjamin Franklin, John Hancock, Sam Adams, John Witherspoon, Richard Henry Lee and Thomas Jefferson.
In VG condition, overall with fine steel engravings. A nice American leather binding.
Book measures c. 4 3/4" x 7 5/8". 460 pp.
