A mid-19th century period brown publisher's cloth. Smooth, gilt-ruled spine with gilt title; cloth slightly chipped at head. Binding, overall, tight, sound and clean.
Mostly very clean internally. Folding hand colored "Map of the Territories and Pacific States"; inset "Plan of Central California on an Enlarged Scale". Map suffers a 5" inch tear which is easily repaired with a bit of archival tape. Vignette title page. Includes much on the Mormons including how the Mormon women feel about polygamy. Suffers some light margin dampstaining to the last fifty pages.
In VG+ clean condition, a fine example. Appealing folding map measures c. 18 1/2" x 14 1/2".
Book measures c. 5 1/2" x 7 3/4". 452 pp.
