Attractive blue publisher's cloth, gilt pictorial front board and gilt flag pictorial spine. Binding tight and sound. 

Mostly clean internally w/ very scattered foxing. Steel-engraved frontis portrait of Webster, steel engraved half title, and three additional plates w/ tissue guards. In VG+ clean, condition. Measures 5 1/4" x 8." 312 pp. 

The Know-Nothing movement (AKA "American Party") of the 1850's was a group of "native-born" Americans concerned over the influx of immigrants into the states. This popular response to Irish-Catholic immigration wished to maintain a nation of white Protestant regime.
