A full year bound in 19th century period half leather. Spine in five compartments w/ gilt title, gilt-ruled raised bands; leather lightly rubbed. Half leather and paper covered boards are chipped and rubbed, corners bumped. Binding tight and sound. 

Scattered soiling internally w/ twenty-two steel engraved plates plus two engravings w/ color. A few of the engravings suffer tears which are easily repaired w/ a little archival tape and a few minutes patience. It does appear that an engraving or two has been removed. Includes the first appearance of three of Poe's works: "A Few Words about Brainard", Life in Death", and "To One Departed". Includes works by Longfellow. Hinges cracked, remains a sound example. Marbled endpapers. 

An appealing collection of American storytellers. Book measures c. 6 3/8" x 10 1/2".
