A mid-19th century quarter leather binding. Ornate spine in six compartments w/ central gilt devices and gilt title, raised bands; leather slightly scuffed at extremities. Paper covered boards are worn at edges, paper rubbed from corners. Leather nicked at head of front joint. Binding tight and sound.
Mostly clean internally w/ numerous text illustrations from woodcut. Contents for the home-maker (scientists of the hearth) include atmospheric air, ailments w/ herbal remedies, drinks, condiments, fabric and cloth, washing/
hygene, ventilation and heating appliance, useful metals, currency and gems and drugs. Also includes a
single page hand-color map of the world. Ex-library w/ stamps on half title and title pages as only indication. Text in French. Marbled endpapers.
In Very Good+ condition, overall, w/ an attractive shelf appearance. Interesting content. Book measures c. 7' x 10". 484 pp.
