two volume set of early to mid-19th century full leather bindings. Ornately gilt
spines w/ title, volume and author; leather chipped at spine ends (past bands on
volume one). Boards are ruled and blindtooled in rule, top boards detached, rear
joints rubbed and cracked at ends. Text blocks remain tight, sound and very
clean. Marbled edges. Very
clean internally, complete w/ (116) one hundred-sixteen copper engraved plates
including the illustrated half title pages. All of the plates are in fine, clean
condition w/ no exception. Class. II Div. I Land, Birds, constitutes volume one
from page 187 and the entirety of volume two are water birds; 100 of the plates
are bird prints, thus. Marbled endpapers. Bookplate "Charles Arthur Wyrnne
Finch". Internally, in near fine condition; perfect for rebinding. Very uncommon to find these books complete w/ the engraved plates since the engravings are highly desirable when broken and sold individually. Books measures c. 5 1/2" W x 8 1/2" H.
