An
attractive early 20th century red full leather binding. Spine w/ gilt title and
seven gilt ruled compartments, raised bands, spine leather rubbed at
extremities. Boards ruled in gilt w/ minimal wear, one corner suffers nicked
leather. Lovely patterned gilt inner dentelles. Binding tight and sound. t.e.g.,
other edges deckled. Mostly
very clean internally w/ two illustrations. Frontis depict Rousseau "from
an original painting by Latour". Second portrait shows Sir Thomas More,
"photogravure from an original painting". First title page is chipped
at the margin. Blue leather endpapers. In
VG++ condition, a fine and highly appealing leather binding. This example is
appears to be unread as most of the pages remain uncut. Book measures c. 7"
x 9 1/2". This book was originally released as part of a larger series but
