First Edition

An intricately embossed and gilt late 19th century period publisher's brown cloth binding. Boards similarly embossed in rule w/ intertwining devices, top board w/ ornately gilt title.  Cloth is frayed at spine ends, split at board corners and, overall, gently rubbed w/ a shallow scratch on the bottom board. T ext block tightly bound.

Mostly clean internally, light foxing confined to the first and last few pages, with sixteen electrotype plates (or heliotypes). Images include Mount Washington, Crawford Notch, Silver Cascades, Jacob's Ladder, Glen House, Franconia Notch, Old Man in the Mountain and Flume Gorge.  Plates are fresh and clean.  Previous owner's stamp on first and second endpaper, "Flora M. Warren."   Hinges cracked.

Contents in VG+ condition (VG condition, overall).  A very nice example of this first edition w/ sixteen heliotype images, not to be confused w/ other sorts of late 19th century reproduction methods (i.e. lithographs, etc).

Book measures c. 6 1/2" x 8 1/8."   Unpaginated.
