A mid-19th century period full calf binding. Decorative gilt tooling on the spine w/ contrasting black leather title label. Gilt ruled boards are smooth and supple w/ some edgewear along joints. Binding tight and sound. Marbled edges. Mostly clean internally complete with many plates and text illustrations. Steel engraved frontis, with paper guard, depicts Turgot. Numerous portrait plates throughout depict the greatest French authors and spokesmen of the day. Foxing to steel engraved plates. In VG+ condition.
