Period red pebbled cloth binding. Spine in five ornately gilt compartments w/ gilt title; spine cloth slightly darkened, gilt remains bright w/ an appealing shelf appearance. Boards blindtooled in rule, top board w/ central gilt laurel leaf design and gilt "Institution des Religieuses du Sacre-Coeur aux Chartreux. Lyon"; boards soiled w/ edgewear. Binding tight and sound.
Text block mostly clean. Steel engraved frontis, with tissue guard, depict portrait of Sister Rosalie w/ facsimile signature. Text in French. Marbled endpapers.
