A charming two volume matching set of early 19th century full leather bindings.  Lovely ornately gilt smooth spines with gilt title and gilt volume numbers on contrasting black leather labels; leather is gently rubbed and chipped at spine extremities.  Marbled leather boards are rubbed and chipped, leather worn from edges but leather is, overall, supple and smooth.  Joints chipped at ends.  Tail band on volume two is frayed.  Bindings are tight and sound.

Light foxing w/ sixteen full page woodcut engravings throughout text blocks.  Volume One frontis depicts "La Tour de Nankin"; volume two frontis depicts "L'Eglise Saint Pierre a Rome." Other engravings throughout depict Mount Vesuvius, Niagara Falls, the Temple at Minerva, Coliseum in Rome and the African diamond mines.  One page is torn with no loss of text. Text in French.

In all, an appealing early 19th century two volume leather bound set w/ charming woodcuts.

Books measure c. 4" x 6 3/4". 400/ 378 pp.
