In a contemporary (modern) red cloth binding. Smooth spine in five gilt-ruled compartments, gilt title and decorative gilt devices with year '1850'. Gilt title on front board with similar gilt device. Recent binding is fresh, clean and tight - like new. a.e.g.
Text includes ten (10) hand colored botanical engravings and fourteen b&w steel engravings depicting various views and portraits. Scattered foxing throughout w/ heavier foxing observed on the engravings (due to the type of paper used). Tissue guards present. Bottom corner of last page is torn. New endpapers.
In all this mid-19th century volume of a popular women's series is a fantastic example of engraved art. Flowers represented in this volume are as follows: Chinese Magnolia; Rose, Wheat and Clove-Carnation; Crocus, China Aster & Morning Glory; Caper-Bush; Helleborus Orientilis; Mock-Orange; Dahlia; Rose, Fecoide rouge; Narcisse Seringat Pensee and one untitled.
Book measures c. 5 7/8" x 9." 448 pp.
