A mid-19th century pebbled brown publisher's cloth. Gilt title, author and publisher's logo on smooth spine, cloth slightly frayed at the top and bottom of spine. Boards blindstamped in rule with a central decorative device, cloth gently worn along board edges. Binding tight and sound.
Text block is mostly clean with a number of full page lithographed plates. Frontis depicts "Dudley Observatory, at Albany, New York". Plate tissue guards exhibit light foxing which is slightly transposed on the opposing pages.
Overall, a sound, clean copy of this mid-19th century period cloth binding.
Book measures c. 7 1/2" H x 5 1/4". 384 pp.
