British Anthology - 1825
A handsome matching four volume set of early 19th century publisher's period half green leather bindings. Bright gilt title, volume and authors on spine, six gilt-ruled compartments and raised bands on spines. Half leather and marbled paper covered boards are clean with some edgewear present. Leather gently rubbed at joint ends. Bindings tight and sound. Marbled edges. Mostly clean internally, light scattered foxing on plates as expected from this type of paper. No bookplates or ownership notations in any of the books. A total of 32 engraved vignette subtitles from drawings by Richard Westall. Marbled endpapers intact. Two volumes in each book for a total of eight volumes. Contains the works of Milton, Parnell, Dryden, Somervile, Green, Prior, Blair, Porteous, Shenstone, Pope, Thomson, Young, Collins, Goldsmith, Akenside, Gray, Beattie, Armstrong Warton, Johnson, Cowper, and Burns. Overall, a very attractive, clean early 19th century half leather four volume set with the best British authors of the time. The leather appears brown in the second photo due to the lighting but these books are most definitely green (as they appear in the first photo). There are two volumes in each book, eight volumes total, complete, thus. Books measure c. 5 3/4" H x 4". Ordering: Please use the Buy Me button below, or phone the shop to order this map.
