Top board displays an African warrior embossed in black and white, gilt title and author; boards are mostly very clean, virtually flawless with bright gilt. Tissue guarded frontis depicts "The Emperor Menelik II". "Manchester City Library - 1854" stamped in blind on title page. Library pocket pasted to rear free endpaper. In all, a fantastic, near fine (albeit, ex-libris) early 20th century first edition of Wellby's year-long expedition that culminated in his death in South Africa.
