Life of Mohammed - 1830
261 pp. plus 8 pp. publisher's advertisements at rear. An early 19th century publisher's period brown cloth binding. Smooth spine displays title in black. Front board displays half title page; bottom board, a list of the "Volumes of Harper's Family Library Already Published". Cloth chipped at spine ends, board edges and joints to reveal blue boards beneath, some light water staining and foxing is observed. Binding tight and sound. Deckled edges. Text block mostly clean with scattered foxing confined mostly to endpapers and within text margins. Large folding frontis plate entitled "The Caaba or Sacred Temple of Mecca" depicts a view of the temple; we see the buildings labeled and people walking around and in prayer. Frontis shows light age-toning due only to the type of paper used for the steel engraving. Bookplate inside front board has been removed, as have front free endpapers. Absolutely remarkable combination of author and subject given the current state of events in the world. Perhaps this book represents irrefutable proof that one of George Bush's (the present American President) distant relatives had a deep interest in Islam back in the early 19th century! Worth researching and pondering! Book measures c. 6 3/8" H x 4". Folding plate measures c. 8 3/4" H x 8 3/4". Ordering: Please use the Buy Me button below, or phone the shop to order this map.
