Volume II only. 3/4 red leather binding. Gilt-embossed title on spine. Engraved frontis. Numerous engravings and some color plates. With chapters on now defunct sciences, such as phrenology (the 'science' by which personality traits were divined from the shape of ones skull.)
In VG+ antiquarian condition. Once split front joint now repaired and holding firmly. Gently worn. Internally, there is some marginalia, foxing, and one or two torn pages. Binding remains quite sturdy. Fascinating illustrations and diagrams, including ballooning.
